LTTE sympathizing Canadian MP detained at KIA
Sri Lankan authorities Tuesday night detained Canadian MP
Bob Rae at the Katunayake International Airport over his alleged support
to the LTTE, authoritative sources told The Island. They said that though
a section of officials wanted to engage the visiting politician, others
had asserted that there was absolutely no point in having a dialogue with
the LTTE supporter.
The MP who had arrived from Chennai would be sent back there, they said.
Well informed sources said that Sri Lanka’s High Commission in Canada had
issued him with a visa though the government later decided to revoke the
decision and accordingly cancelled the visa. But by that time, the
Canadian MP had already left his country.
