

Dengue hits epidemic stage in KandyNo leave for police officers
KANDY - Leave for police officers in the Kandy and Gampola divisions has been cancelled for the next two weeks. Their services are required in the campaign against dengue which has reached an epidemic level in the Kandy district.
Senior DIG Gamini Navaratne in-charge of the Central Province told a conference convened to combat dengue that the police officers attached to stations in Kandy and Gampola divisions should forego their leave for two weeks and assist health officials.
The discussion was held at the Kandy police headquarters on Monday (08).
Police, Civil Defence Unit, Grama Niladari, Kandy Municipal Council, government Sector, and many other organisations were represented at the discussion. It was chaired by Central Provincial Governor Tikiri Kobbekaduwa.
Among the speakers were Power Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Kandy Mayor L. B. Aluwihare, Senior DIG Nimal Mediwaka, DIG. Pujith Jayasundara, Additional Secretary Ministry of Health Nihal Jayatilaka and SSP I. M. Karunaratne.
