Lebanese voters have given the country’s pro-Western bloc a narrow victory over the Hezbollah-led opposition. To save Israeli interests there, we saw prominent American leaders in Lebanon just before the election. Indirectly they campaigned to beat Hezbollah with the offer of an aid package tied to the election result. We saw American heavy weights like vice president Joe Biden’s and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s visits coinciding with the election to influence the results. As one elderly woman voter said; "In Lebanon I have only one enemy, and that is Israel and everybody who is against Israel is my friend". She also added "I don’t like the way the government makes the rich richer. It is always the same few people who govern and who benefit from it".

The lucky ones are the Lebanese who live outside the country, in Australia, Canada, and other EU countries who were lucky to get free air return tickets from interested parties to participate in the election. It is reported that even the other voters in Lebanon were well looked after in every way. This is the first time we learn that Lebanon voted on the same day. However, we give credit to the government for conducting a free and fair election which received commendation from all parties. It would be better for the Lebanese to choose their presidents themselves without being influenced by America, Israel or Syria. We wish the Lebanese people all the best.
