He wanted to study the entire country and he did this from grass-roots level up. He made frequent visits to the most rural of India’s villages and they are absolutely rural since his return to India in 2002. He is said to have sat on dirt floors listening to what the villagers had to say; partaken of meals offered him; and even slept in huts. Hearing of the crass indifference of public officials, he escorted the complainers to the relevant offices and obtained redress for them. |
