LG polls: TNA contemplates suing MoD

The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) is contemplating legal action against the Defence Ministry for preventing it from going to Jaffna and Vavuniya to hand over nominations for the local government polls and engage in electioneering.

The TNA claims the Defence Ministry has informed it that the Northern Province is not yet cleared for political activities or safe for TNA MPs.

Opposition MPs Mangala Samaraweera, Mano Ganeshan, Dr. Jayalath Jayawardena and Gamini Jayawickrema Perera leave the Supreme Court after filing a fundamental rights petition against their being deprived of visiting the IDP camps. They had cited the Attorney General, Secretary to the Ministry of Defence and his Military Liaison Officer as respondents.
