Isuru Udana Tillakaratna, SL’s new Twenty-20 find, celebrates after bowling out New Zealand’s Jacob Oram for 7 during their victorious World Cup Twenty-20 cricket match at Trent Bridge ground in Nottingham, England, last Tuesday (16). The 21-year-old from the down south city of Balangoda represented D.S. Senanayake College, Colombo, and Tamil Union C&AC while featuring for SL ‘A’ and SL Under-19. When he played for SL ‘A’ against South Africa last August, the left-arm fast-bowling all-rounder hadn’t played at least a single 1st Class match. Likewise, before getting a call for the Twenty-20 World Cup this month, Udana had featured only in 12 1st Class encounters, 12 List-A one-dayers and 10 Twenty-20 (domestic) matches, but not a single international encounter.
