Mosquito breeders to be prosecuted

Over one hundred persons who had directly or indirectly contributed to breeding of Dengue Mosquitos were reported to have been detected during the last two weeks from various parts of the Kurunegala District, J. M. Sarathkumara, a senior PHI of the Bingiriya electorate told The Island.

The offenders numbering 127 would be produced before Courts and charged. The guilty would be liable to be punished by the law. They persons can be fined upto Rs. 25000/- plus 06 months imprisonment according to the new regulations of the Ministry of Health services.

Sarathkumara said that 145 PHIs and 250 family health nurses have been deployed to educate the residents of the Kurunegala District on preventive measures and these health officials will visit from house to house to supervise the cleanliness of the environment of homes, estate and private firms.

The NWP-PC Health Ministry has allocated 4.5 million rupees for this purpose, he added.
