

Sri Lanka will launch a tourist promotional campaign in Beijing on June 27 to attract Chinese tourists showcasing Sri Lanka’s travel destinations, information of health tourism and eco-tourism. The campaign is a joint initiative by the Sri Lankan and Indian embassies in China, the Tourism Ministry said.
Tourism Minister Milinda Moragoda and Indian Ambassador in Beijing Nirupama Rao have had several discussions on the proposed campaign which later coordinated between the Indian Embassy and Sri Lankan Embassy in Beijing.
Tourism Ministry spokesman told The Island that during the war there had been a sharp decline in Chinese visitors to Sri Lanka due to security concerns. The time was ripe to attract Chinese tourists who had stayed away. Sri Lanka would join hands with leading airlines, hoteliers, holiday resorts and tour operators in the promotional campaign and arrangements would be made to bring Chinese tourists by offering them a wide range of incentives and bonuses during the period April to December.
He said that the Sri Lankan Ambassador to China Karunathilaka Amunugama and team had exerted efforts to launch the promotional campaign which would bring substantial amount of foreign exchange to the country.
