

SLRCS to help students in higher studies
The Sri Lanka Red Cross Society has formulated a scheme to assist students who have obtained good results in the GCE (O/L), but are blocked by financial difficulties from studying for the pre-university GCE (AL) examination.
The scheme which is the brainchild of Chairman of the SL Red Cross, Jagath Abeysinghe, offers Rs.1,000 monthly to a student for a period of two years up to GCE (A/L) examination.
Donations to the scholarship fund are tax free.
There are two schemes for donations: (A) One time donation of Rs. 150,000 to the Nonimi Savi or a donation of Rs. 25,000 to the Diriya Savi. All donations should be credited to Account No 6504712 SLRCS Children’s Bank of Ceylon Scholarship Fund, Hyde Park, Colombo-02.
The project is transparent and implemented with the blessings of President Mahinda Rajapaksa, the SLRCS Chairman told the media.
The scholarship funds are governed by a panel consisting of Jagath Abeysinghe, Chairman SLRCS, Kumarasiri Hettige, Coordinating Secretary (Parliament), to the President and from representatives of Bank of Ceylon and Inland Revenue.
