Road widening an urgent need
I am kindly requesting the authorities concerned to see for themselves the plight of the Wellawatte market area at Manning Place and do the needful.
This road Manning Place is narrow and there is a bus station and many commercial establishments. It branches from Galle Road and ends up at Hampden Lane Wellawatte. But the congested area is only about 100 yards that needs widening from the Galle Road. Many buses ply on this road. Buses are stationed on the left side from Galle Road and many vehicles such as cars, vans, motor bikes are parked on the other side i.e. the left side from Hampden Lane.
As a result school children and road users move with great difficulty. The Municipal market, Municipal dispensary and the cleansing depot and a building belonging to some Christian sect are there on the right side from Galle Road. Furthermore loading and unloading hardware items take place causing great inconvenience to the general public. What I am calling for is road widening on this stretch. Mallika Mawatha and W. A. Silva Mawatha, Wellawatte were widened about two years back and are an asset to the public. The people are grateful for it. People expect similar widening of this road up to 100 yards only. The other portion of this road is wide enough for a residential area and it is not a commercial area.
