St. Peter’s College and St. Anthony’s College will play for the first time their annual inter-school rugby encounter for a trophy when they scrum down at Bambalapitiya this evening.

According to a release issued by The Rugby Foundation of St. Peter’s College, the trophy is presented in memory of two Rectors: Rev Fr Joe E. Wickremesinghe (Rector, St. Peter’s 1978-1992) and Rev Fr Dom Aidan de Silva (Rector, St. Anthony’s 1967-1972), who had done yeoman service for their respective academic institutes. The trophy has been named as The Rectors’ Trophy.

The trophy has been presented by The Rugby Foundation of the St. Peter’s College together with The Old Antonain Rugby Football Club.

The Chief Guest at the match will be Dr. Wasantha Perera, Senior Consultant Orthopedic Surgeon Colombo National Hospital.

Meanwhile Royal College will host Isipathana in their annual rugby fixture played for the Late Major Milroy Fernando Trophy, at Royal Sports Complex stadium, in Reid Avenue.

Royal come into this game with their tails up having beaten Kingswood quite convincingly last week.

According to a source involved in the organizing of the match, a new trophy is on offer for the winner of the match, this year.

In two other matches lined-up for today, Kingswood host S. Thomas’ at Bogambara Stadium while St. Joseph’s play Mahanama at CR&FC grounds.
