

Trinitian Haritha bags a gold
Sri Lanka shoot to second place
Young Haritha Pilapitiya (14), of Trinity College won a gold medal to guide the Junior National Practical Pistol Shooting team of Sri Lanka to win the Overall Junior champions trophy at the ARAFURA Games held in Darwin, Australia, recently.
Over 50 countries participated in the tournament in 27 displines.
Sri Lanka won silver in the Overall Championship. Australia won the gold while Singapore took the bronze.
The Sri Lanka men’s Open team comprised Lt. Col. Janaka Ritigahapola, Lt. Col. Pooraka Seneviratne and Reza Odayar while the ladies’ Open team had Inoka Weerasinghe and Anusha Prasadika of the Sri Lankan Air Force.
The Junior Open team comprised Haritha Pilapitiya and Avishka Kulasuriya of S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia.
The next major shooting event conducted by the International Practical shooting confederation will be held in the Philippines in October.
