Children on trip to zoo  end up in hospital

Kandy – An education tour turned out to be a nightmare for a group of Dhammma school children from Hasalaka yesterday (28) morning, when the bus they were travelling in went down a precipice at Udadumbara. They were on their way to the Dehiwala Zoological Gardens.

About twenty children sustained injuries in the mishap and were rushed to the Ududumbara hospital. The rescue operations were conducted by the Ududumbara police with the help of the residents of the area.

Some of the injured were transferred to Medamahanuwara, Teldeniya and the Peradeniya hospitals.

All the children were out of danger but the conductor of the bus was in a critical condition, the Ududumbara police said.

The coach was carrying about fifty persons including students, teachers and parents.

The police believe the brake system of the bus had failed.
