Five men with a fire arm arrested:
One connected to a police high ranker
Five persons with a sophisticated firearm in their possession were arrested by a special police team at Hataraliy-adda on Friday (26).
The police said the arrests had been made near a jungle in Hataraliyadda during daytime.
The gang had been on their way from Kurunegala and what their mission was had not been disclosed, the police said.
The suspects had no permit for the fire arm and one of them was connected to a high ranking police officer, sources said.
They were handed over to Hataraliyadde police station.
Further investigations were being conducted under directions of senior DIG Central Gamini Navaratne and DIG Central Pujith Jayasundara.
