Karuna dismisses Tiger move to form govt in exile

Former LTTE Eastern Commander and present Minister of National Integration Vinayagamurthy Muralidaran dismisses attempts to form a ‘government in exile’ as a futile exercise.

He said so last Friday at the inauguration of the first regional branch of the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau (SLFEB) in Batticaloa in answer to a question by a journalist whether there was any possibility of Tamil people supporting the formation of an ‘Eelam government in exile’ so that the LTTE could continue to function as a political force from abroad.

"As you are well aware terrorism in Sri Lanka has been completely eliminated by President Mahinda Rajapaksa" said Minister Muralidaran, "because the whole LTTE Organisation was based on a single individual called Pirabhakaran; and with the destruction of the leadership the whole organisation has collapsed and any attempt to rally Tamil people is doomed to fail".

With the decimation of the LTTE hierarchy, the outfit’s international network operated by a person described as K. P. or K. Pathmanathan had also collapsed and it could not be resurrected by anyone other than Prabhakaran, said Minister Muralidaran.

"Tamil people have rejected the LTTE lock, stock and barrel and any attempt to resume terrorism won’t succeed," he said.

He viewed the attempts to from ‘an Eelam government in exile’ as a ruse to keep with LTTE’s international extortion network intact.

The truth about LTTE’s crimes against civilians have come out and the Tamil diaspora is beginning to get a clear picture of what happened during the war as President Rajapaksa had wisely made communication facilities available at IDPcamps so that civilians could speak with their family members, relatives and friends overseas, Minister Muralidaran said.

The Minister said the defeat of the LTTE had created a situation where expatriate Tamils could step in to develop the country, especially the North and the East by investing in Sri Lanka.
