The ‘safely kept’
Sinhala throne
I am glad that my
writings amuse Mr. Sirimal. I must return the compliment and say that his
sycophantic paean of praise for the Brits gave me a good laugh. Their
eviction of "indolent"[as he calls them] Kandyan peasants in order to
plant tea, developing railroads to transport tea and the import of Indian
"coolies" who have upset our demographic balance earn his song of praise.
What a laugh ! As for their removal of the Sinhala throne for ‘safe
keeping’ [from whom, I wonder] I hope they will get round to returning to
Sri Lanka our glorious statue of Tara Devi [looted from a devala] and the
Elgin Marbles to Greece. They’ve been in British "safe keeping" too
long already. H.M the Queen may lend a sympathetic ear to a plea for their
return from her loyal admirer Mr. Sirimal Tissa Devendra
