Prasanna says 13th Amendment must be implemented

Western Province Chief Minster Prasanna Ranatunga dismissing the Jathika Hela Urumaya threat of pulling out of the Government if the 13th Amendment to the Constitution is implemented, said that this was an Amendment passed by Parliament and legally valid and had to be implemented.

"Why should the JHU oppose this while being a partner in the Government," he queried.

He said that except for a handful, the whole country had endorsed this. "The President only wanted to make matters easy for everyone and that was foremost in his mind in preparing to implement the 13th Amendment," Ranatunga said.

Even those who contemplated earlier to oppose the move had now given their wholehearted support.
