Weeratunga tells public servants: Emulate security personnel
President’s Secretary Lalith Weeratunga told Galle District public servants that they should follow the example set by the security personnel who did not show any reluctance nor refuse to carry out their duty when the Government asked them to eradicate terrorism.

He said that with all ISO certifications and the availability of modern equipment and technology in present day government offices, the public are not satisfied with the performance of government servants.

"Unlike in our era, all government offices are equipped with modern technological devices and personnel resources, yet the output is not encouraging", he said.

Weeratunga said the period of the present Parliament lapses in April 2010, if it is not dissolved before that. Therefore, a new Parliament would be in place either in April 2010 or before that. We should always remember to look back at the work we have done.

"There cannot be a perfect public service, but it is the duty of the public servants to minimise lapses. The Department of Immigration and Emigration and the Pensions Department that had come under criticism have now been transformed as examples to be followed by other government departments," he further said.
