Royalists proudly pay tribute to war heroes

"They have repaid the debt they owed, They kept thy fame inviolate" As the school song was sung, they truly have repaid their debts to their motherland. Patriotic feelings in the hearts of the young Royalists to see their seniors, proudly marching with their heads high along Rajakeeya Mawatha.

Escorted by the Royal College Band and the Cadet troops, they walked in their army uniforms in grandeur, truly with feathers in their caps. They were the proud old boys of Royal College, who have served their motherland in the Sri Lankan forces.

July 1st marked this historical event of Royal College as they saluted the National Heroes, especially those from Royal College. The presence of the Presidential Secretary, Lalith Weeratunga made the event official. The Principal of Royal College, Upali Gunasekera, welcomed the invitees to the grand event with the traditional "Udarata Dancers" adding colour.

When the Old Boys of the three forces marched in, a cheer rose from the watching school which touched the hearts of the soldiers, deeply. The ceremony was inaugurated with a two-minute silence to commemorate the young valiant lives of the soldiers which were sacrificed to achieve this victory. This occasion which was held in front of the monument which was constructed in the School for the soldiers was made rich with speeches from all the invitees.

The Royalists have faced the need of the hour on their 175th anniversary at this most exclusive once in a lifetime event.

In his speech, the Presidential Secretary, Lalith Weeratunga said the nation needs our efficient participation in developing the country like the participation of the Royalists in this war.
