Paranavithana says Lahore attack didn’t affect his cricket

Opening bat Tharanga Paranavithana was one of the worst affected players during the Lahore terrorist attack four months ago as he was shot close to his chest area. The 27-year-old left-hander played a key role in Sri Lanka’s 1st innings yesterday as he top scored with 72 runs and at the post match media conference said that the attack didn’t affect his cricket.

"I got hit close to the chest and I’d to stay in the hospital for about seven days. It didn’t honestly affect my cricket, but I thought we were very fortunate to come out of that attack," the SSC batsman commented.

He admitted that the Galle wicket wasn’t the easiest to bat on with the seam bowlers getting a plenty of assistance and felt a score of 292 was a good one.

"There’s a bit of moisture on the wicket and the ball seamed around. The wicket had been closed for 3 days and helped seam bowling. I did my basics right and got some runs. The total looks good as the ball is moving around. You don’t get chances everyday and I wanted to make most of the opportunity and score a hundred. But it wasn’t to be today." (RC)
