CDP lays keel for third 78 m Indian vessel
Colombo Dockyard PLC laid the keel for construction of the 3rd Multipurpose Platform Supply Vessel for Greatship India Limited at a simple ceremony on the 2nd of July 2009. The event was attended by Owners representatives and senior management of Colombo Dockyard including the project team.

This is third vessel of a series of four and the design of the Vessel was developed by a world renowned ship design firm, Seatech Solutions International (S) Pte Ltd of Singapore. The vessel will be built to Lloyds Register of Shipping rules and regulations.

This Vessel too similar to her sister vessels is designed to supply, support the offshore oil and gas field on a twenty-four (24) hour per day basis for operation in un-restricted waters and to undertake multi-purpose roles such as transportation of pipes, fresh water, diesel oil, bulk cement, stores, equipment, moving men and materials between platforms and shore, and also engage in external fire fighting.

Good maneuverability and station keeping will be achieved by using twin controllable pitch propellers, twin rudders and transverse bow and stern thrusters. Twin maneuvering consoles will be fitted in the wheelhouse stations, forward and aft with "joy-stick" controls.

The wheelhouse is designed to ensure excellent all-round view as far as practicable. Unobstructed view to the, aft deck and aft overhead is ensured by fitting lower level and deck head windows. The accommodation for 50 persons will be well-appointed and shall be centrally air-conditioned.

It is remarkable to note what Colombo Dockyard has achieved during these difficult times of the world economic crisis, where many shipyards in the region have suffered setbacks. The company’s order book stands confirmed without a single cancellation and this has given the company to move forward in the same momentum till the end of 2010, which is a clear testimony of the trust and confidence the Clients have placed on the capability of Colombo Dockyard.
