In a little booklet, edited by me which started as a tribute to our late Foreign Minister and ended as The Pros and Cons of the Ethnic Problem, I have mentioned a remark made by the Indian Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, Thus "I received Lashman’s letter today (That was after the assassination) and cried and cried".
Since independence the posts of Defence and External Affairs were held by the Prime Minister of the day. However, during the previous regime, the post of Foreign Minister fell on the shoulders of Lakshman Kadirgamar and he performed his duties well by restoring the image of Sri Lanka globally.
As a mark of respect, the best place to erect the statue of our beloved Late Foreign Minister is the Kadirgamar Institute which was his brainchild.
