Loans for self-employment through Labour Ministry
The Labour Relations and Manpower Ministry in collaboration with the People’s Bank will provide loan facilities to those interested in starting self-employment projects and small and medium scale entreprenurial projects.
The Ministry made this decision as a large number of entrepreneurs and people find it extremely difficult to obtain financing from commercial banks because of high interest rates.
Labour Relations and Manpower Minister Athauda Seneviratne told The Island that employees attached to the private sector organizations were performing their duties with a sense of responsibility.
The same employees who wish to commence their own businesses would be highly motivated to achieve their ambition, he said.
Minister Seneviratne said that in the proposed loan scheme the annual interest rate would be 10 per cent and the Labour Relations Ministry would process all loan applications.
