Tamil Diaspora to discuss ways to assist Govt. help IDPs

The Tamil Diaspora living in Europe are scheduled to convene a meeting in Germany on July 18and 19, to discuss the main issues of how they could contribute to the Sri Lankan Government’s efforts to commence the healing process to resettle the IDPs and rehabilitate the LTTE cadres who have surrendered, Tamil Diaspora sources said yesterday.

The Sources said that the meeting was to be held in Stuggart, Germany and the Sri Lankan Ambassador in Germany had been invited to participate in the interactions.

When contacted, Dr Noel Nadesan who initiated the visit of the 21 member delegation of ‘Tamil Diaspora for Dialouge’ to Sri Lanka during the latter part of 2008 to interact with several senior Ministers of the Government as well as members of the Opposition Parties, said that a five-member delegation had arrived in the country last week.

Dr Nadesan said that they the Tamil Diaspora for Dialouge wished to express its gratitude to all the officials of the Ministry of Foreign affairs for opening the doors for a dialogue.

He said that they had met with the Chairman of the All Party Representative Committee and Minister Prof Tissa Vitharna, Secretary to the Ministry of Justice and the Chairperson of the Committee on Rehabilitation of LTTE Cadres Suhanda Gamlath and Chairman of Tourism Development Authority Bernard Gunatilleke.

"We are committed to a policy to positively engage the Government of Sri Lanka and interact mainly on issues of the IDPs and the Rehabilitation of Youth for the present."

Dr Nadesan is an Vetinery Surgeon by profession and is Editor of a tabloid newspaper ‘Uthayan’ Published monthly for the Tamil Diaspora living in Melbourne, Australia. He said their members were against separatism and terrorism in any form we are persons who are striving for unity and betterment of the Tamil people in an undivided Sri Lanka".

The delegation comprises of Professors, intellectuals, doctors, engineers, writers, from Australia, United Kingdom, Denmark, Germany, Norway, France, Switzerland, Canada and Saudi Arabia etc.

Currently Journalist and writer Mrs Rajeswari Balasubramaniam, Dr Narenthiran, Mr Sivanathan Chelliah are in the country.

We have requested the Tourism Promotion Minister to make arrangements for Tamil Diaspora families to fly to Jaffna direct from the Katunayake International Airport.

The Tamil Diaspora are very eager to visit their villages and places of Religious worship in the North and the East which are dear and near to their heart.

At same time we have asked that Special arrangements be made for the Tamil Diaspora to participate in the Nallur Kovil festivities and the Kathirkamam Murugan kovil festivities this time.
