Mahinda meets Gaddafi

President Mahinda Rajapaksa, who is currently in Egypt to attend the Non-aligned Summit, met Libyan President Muammar Gaddafi at Sharn Sheian city on Tuesday afternoon and both leaders had a lengthy discussion.

According to the Presidential Secretariat both leaders discussed issues they had talked about when President Rajapaksa recently visited Libya.

Rajapaksa drew the attention of the Libyan leader on the measures taken by the Sri Lankan Government on developing the North and East in the aftermath of the eradication of LTTE terrorism. The Libyan leader congratulated his Sri Lankan counterpart on the successful eradication of terrorism after three decades. He also extended Libya’s hand of friendship to the development of Sri Lanka‘s North and East devastated by the war.

The Non-aligned Summit was scheduled to commence at 12 noon Sri Lanka time on Wednesday at Sharn Sheian city and President Rajapaksa was scheduled to address the Summit in the afternoon.
