President drunk with victory - JVP

President Mahinda Rajapaksa tries to pocket the entire credit for the military victory over separatist terrorism, but would never be successful in his attempt, JVP Leader Somawansa Amarasinghe said yesterday.

"President Rajapaksa’s pocket is not large enough to hold all these honours and credit. Soon, this country will notice that most of cherished glories will spill over," Amarasinghe told the press at a conference held at the JVP Head Office in Battaramulla.

The President should be ashamed to usurp the glories of military victory achieved by troops through sacrifices for political gains and mileage, he said.

"The triumph was achieved by the blood and sweat of the security force members, but the President and his family try to take full possession of the victories. It is a shame that they capitalise on them for political projects," he said.

President Rajapaksa after drinking deeply at the fountain of public applause due for the security forces, is now ‘drunk with victory’ and is not able to control himself, Amarasinghe said. "He is so drunk over victory, that he thinks he could do anything under the sun. Soon this would be proved otherwise," he said.

JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva, Parliamentary Group Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake and MP Ramalingam Chandrasekar also addressed the press.
