Junior Finance Minister Ranjith Siyambapalitiya yesterday said the government couldn’t act beyond the law though the Auditor General and parliamentary watchdog committees, the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) and Parliamentary Accounts Committee (PAC) had revealed waste, corruption and irregularities.

Police security for Kelaniya PS chairman, members
The Chairman of the Kelaniya Pradeshya Sabha, Prasanna Ranaweera and some PS members have been provided with Police security on the instructions of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Cancer hospital nurses for mental and eye hospitals
Nurses who served more than two years at the Maharagama Cancer Institute (MCI) will be transferred to the Angoda Mental Hospital and to the National Eye Hospital. This will be a continuous process. The Health Ministry said the decision had been taken on humanitarian grounds as requested by the nursing staff of the Institute.
