Commandos turned deserters arrested for robbery

A group of Army Commandos, who had deserted the army and had engaged in burglaries, had been arrested by the Southern Province Special Crime Investigations Unit.

When they were arrested near the Galle fish market, they were in possession of two parcels containing 200 grams of ganja.

Among the articles recovered from them were a DVD player, three mobile phones and a computer printer.

They were residents of Imbulgoda and Gampaha.

Investigations revealed that the gang was responsible for the robbery of motorcycles worth Rs 500,000 in May and the robbery of Rs 3.5 million worth items from a house in Boossa.

Two of the suspects were produced before the Galle Magistrate.
