The Zahira College Group of ‘60 has organized a seven-a-side rugby tournament for schools. The tournament will be held on July 25 at CR&FC grounds with the participation of 12 leading teams in the country.

The organizers of the tournament told the media during a press briefing, held at Zahira College, in connection with the upcoming sporting event that, they had found a sponsor in Harcourts Group of Companies and a co-sponsor in Diamond Food Products.

The teams contesting the championships are Isipatana, S. Thomas’, St. Peter’s, St. Joseph’s, Dharmaraja, Vidyartha, Prince of Wales, CWW Kannangara, Carey, St. Anne’s College, Kurunegala, Royal College, Panadura and Zahira College, Colombo.

Matches in the tournament will be initially worked off on a round robin method which will lead the teams to a knockout stage where matches will be worked off for the Cup, Plate and Bowl categories. The Cup winners will receive Rs 25,000, Plate winners Rs 15,000 and Bowl winners 10,000. The Most Outstanding Player of the Tournament will receive a gift voucher worth Rs 10,000. Medals and certificates will be presented to the members of the winning teams of each category. (RN)
