Last week I read an interesting letter in The Island about downsizing of the Piliyandala roundabout and the removal of four traffic islands around it to facilitate vehicular movement.

That writer said it was now very unsafe for pedestrians to cross the road at that point as they were without the benefit of a traffic island. 

On Tuesday, I was coming towards this roundabout around 9.45 am, when I saw a damaged vehicle beside the roundabout on the Horana-Colombo road.

The accident must have taken place about 30 minutes back.  It had all the trappings of a serious mishap. The aforesaid writer’s prediction had come true!

It is high time those in responsible government positions read newspapers and heeded views and news published therein.
