The 122nd Birth Commemoration of Munidasa Cumaratunga will be held on Tuesday, the 28th of July, 2009 at 3.30 pm at the Auditorium of the National Museum, Colombo 07. "Mage Pasala" (My school) and "Shikshaka Wurthiya" (The Teaching Profession) – two books by Munidasa Cumaratunga – will also be launched at this event.

Minister of Urban Development & Sacred Area Development Dinesh Gunawardene, will be the Chief Guest. He will address the gathering on ‘Cumaratunga & Patriotism’. The Guest Speakers will be Dr. (Mrs.) Tilokasundari Kariyawasam, who will speak on ‘The Wonder of Cumaratunga's Children's Literature’ and Prof. Sarath Wijesuriya, who will speak on ‘Cumaratunga – The Great Teacher’.

The event will be chaired by Prof. Chandrasiri Palliyaguru, Vice-President of the Cumaratunga Munidasa Foundation.

‘Mage Pasala’ (My school) is a new children's book – a compilation of 'Mage Pasala' and 'Akuru Kireema' – stories from Cumaratunga’s ‘Kiyawana Nuwana’ Book 1, with colourful illustrations by renowned artist Sybil Wettasinghe. ‘Shikshaka Wurthiya’ (The Teaching Profession) is a collection of Cumaratunga’s writings on the Teaching Profession, a timely re-print after more than 50 years.
