The Court of Appeal on Thursday July 23, suspended till August 3, the transfer of 53 nurses of Cancer Hospital Maharagama to the Eye Hospital Colombo and the IDH, Angoda.

The All Ceylon Nurses Union and the Independent Nurses Union had objected to the transfer order which they said was arbitrary and unreasonable.

The Ministry of Health held that nurses should not expose themselves to anti-cancer medication for a continuous period.

The 532 nurses who were transferred are members of the petitioner Union.

The petition was supported by Dr. Jayatissa De Costa.

The Bench comprised Justice Saththy Hettige (President) and Justice Anil Gooneratne.
