Professors and U turns
Prof Carlo Fonseka seems fighting hard to justify the implementation of 13th Amendment. As a student of history, I would like to share a little historical fact about the fights and agitations of Prof Fonseka.
A couple of decades back, in the mid 80s some medical professionals of Sri Lanka started the North Colombo Medical College (NCMC), popularly known as the Private Medical College (PMC).
Prof. Carlo Fonseka, then the Professor of Physiology at the Colombo Medical School persuaded his students to agitate against the NCMC. The Colombo medical students started the fight and managed to unite the whole Sri Lankan University Student Population against the NCMC. Gradually the NCMC cause went ugly and the JVP hijacked it. The end result was the closing down of whole University system for THREE years and several students losing their lives!
To add injury to insult, a few months later, devotee students of Prof. Carlo Fonseka found their ‘Mahacharya thuma’ teaching at the NCMC! Yes, Prof Fonseka made a U turn and started batting for the opposite side.
I am wondering if history is going to repeat itself. Will Prof Fonseka start campaigning against the 13th Amendment in a few months?
