Term test papers will in future be prepared by Education Ministry - Premjayantha

The Education Ministry has decided to prepare school term test papers themselves from next term. The decision was taken following serious errors in the last term test papers prepared by the Provincial Education Departments islandwide. However, Provincial Education Departments will continue the printing and distributing of papers.

Education Minister Susil Premjayantha said that there wouldn’t be any error in question paper if the papers were prepared by the Provincial Education Departments or Education Ministry. However, Premjayantha claimed some political parties are trying to take political mileage by criticising the government on the issue. This is a shame.

A large number of factual and spelling mistakes in the mid term papers given to school children in several provinces, have placed students in a quandary. A vulgar word had been printed in some papers. The mistakes in meaning of words in most question papers set by the Provincial Council Education Departments of the North Central and Central Provinces, have been noticed by students. The questions have been wrongly phrased making it difficult for students to understand, while in one instance, students were asked to answer (4) questions but only three (3) had been given in the paper. In the Southern Province, the answer sheet too had been provided with the English Question papers.
