

Official marking of postal votes progresses smoothly – Addl. Comm. of Elections
The official marking of postal votes for the polls to the Uva Provincial Council and the local polls to the Jaffna MC and Vavuniya UC progressed for the second day yesterday, without a hitch before the respective certifying officers, Additional Commissioner of Elections (Local and Provincial ) W. P. Sumanasiri said yesterday.
Postmaster General M. K. B. Dissanayake said that postmen were in the process of delivering the official polling cards and that a special delivery was scheduled to take place on Sunday August (2). He requested registered voters who had not received their polling cards to remain at home.
The Assistant Commissioner of Elections for the Jaffna District, P. Kuhanathan said that 473 applications for postal voting were received of which 336 were accepted and the marking of postal votes was taking place without sans violations.
The Assistant Commissioner of Elections for the District of Vavuniya A. S. Karunanidhi said that 197 applications for postal voting were received of which 183 were accepted and the marking of postal votes was taking place for the second day yesterday.
The Assistant Commissioner of Elections for the District of Badulla, Namal Talangama said that 17, 422 applications were received of which 16,059 were accepted and the voting was taking place for the second day yesterday.
The Assistant Commissioner of Elections for the Moneragala District K. J. S. Madhawa said that 10,816 applications were received of which 8,897 were accepted and the certifying of postal votes taking place on the second day yesterday without a hitch.
