

Lankaputhra Development Bank in Batticaloa
The 7th branch of Lankaputhra Development Bank, contributing towards the Neganahira Navodaya development programme, will be declared open by Senior Advisor to the President and Member of Parliament,Basil Rajapaksa at 10.00 a.m. on 29th July 2009, at No 05 Centre Road Batticaloa. A range of benefits are lined up for customers at Batticaloa through the Bank.
Lankaputhra Development Bank which is a wholly state owned entity was launched with the aim of boosting the national economy. The Bank is implementing several projects to promote the small and medium scale industrial sector, notably among them the Kurshi Navodaya, Mahaweli Loan Scheme and the new comprehensive rural credit scheme. Several savings schemes including children are on offer for the benefit of the younger generation, with attractive rates of interest. Apart from these, the Bank also offer a leasing facility. The Batticaloa branch is being opened to actively contribute to the Neganahira Navodaya programme by promoting the fisheries and livestock industries in the Eastern Province. All Sri Lankans have now the opportunity to invest their money with Lankaputhra Development Bank, thus making their contribution to national development.
The Batticaloa branch has also drawn up plans to provide a range of services to those engaged in agriculture. As part of this move, a counter of the Agricultural Federation Services will be opened at the premises. This counter will help resolve problems faced by farmers while guiding them towards new technology.
Parallel to the opening of the branch of the Bank, a railway bank promotion campaign will also get under way. The promotion campaign will be launched on the Batticaloa bound train from Colombo at 10.30 a.m. on the 28th July. An awareness on the services offered by Lankaputhra Development Bank will be displayed on this occasion among the railway commuters.
The Bank has already set up branches in Colombo, Hambantota, Polonnaruwa, Kegalle, Kandy and Wennapuwa and buoyed by their success, is planning to open more branches in the near future in Jaffna, Mannar and Trincomalee.
