Dharmaraja honours her war heroes

The Principal, staff and students of Dharmaraja College together with the Old boys’ Union will hold a special ceremony at the college Auditorium on Friday 31st to felicitate all the Old Boys’ who participated in the war effort to defeat the LTTE, as members of the 3 Forces and the Police.

Defence Secretary, Gotabhaya Rajapaksa will be chief guest. Altogether, 174 officers will be honoured, 100 from the Army, 28 from the Navy, 38 from the Air Force and 18 from the Police.

Proceedings will commence at 8.30 a.m. with a guard of honour to the chief guest, followed by a floral tribute at the mausoleum for the 34 Rajan officers who fell in the war, by the chief guest and the relatives of the deceased officers. The fallen Rajans include Lt. Gen. Nalin Angammana, the cricketer, who is perhaps the highest ranking Army officer to have died on the battle field and SSP Upul Seneviratne of the STF, posthumously promoted DIG. There are among others, younger offices who have been posthumously awarded the highest awards for gallantry in the battle field.

This will be followed by the formal ceremony at the college Auditorium chaired by the Secretary Defence and attended by the retired Old Rajan officers too where the serving officers will be presented with mementos by chief guest followed by the present boys, to felicitate their heroes.
