In the present contest North and East region takes the lime light in most board room planing meetings. Most organizations are geared planning strategy on how to execute the untaped market potential of the North and East. We at Union Assurance started our planning to enter the Northern market way back in 2002, we were the 1st private sector insurer to open operation in the north and this move was duly recognized to be a wise investment when the Jaffna branch office was bestowed with the best region office award at the Union Assurance Annual Awards 2005 stated Rukman Weerarathne General Manager Marketing & Distribution Union Assurance PLC.

The Jaffna branch currently houses over 70 staff members recording a significant momentum in both life and general insurance operations. In the coming months we will be opening branches in strategic locations covering the Valikamam, Vadamarachchi and Thenmanachchi zones in Jaffna Peninsula and we hope that theses expansions will create over thousands of Job opportunities and will be able to provide insurance solutions to the community and will have a direct impact towards the development of the northern and eastern regions stated Mr. Weerarathne. We are evenly poised and well established in the eastern region with branches in Batticaloa, Kalmunai, Trinco, Valachchani & Ampara branch officers staffing over 300 members and hoping to recruit more members to the team.

Being a part of the development process of the North and East is not something new to UA stated Mr Weerarathne, we have conducted many social responsibility initiative in theses regions, through its many outstanding social responsibility initiatives such as 'Union Neth Hamuwa', which greatly focuses on developing skills and best practices in business and introducing modern teaching techniques, Union Assurance has always been in the forefront of its social responsibility initiatives. Therefore the North and Eastern areas of the country have been no exception when it comes to our social responsibility initiatives. This was largely displayed when the company commenced its 7th phase in the Eastern Province by installing crime prevention awareness boards last year. In addition to this Union Assurance contributed towards uplifting the hospital facilities of two main hospitals in the Northern District in Jaffna and Karenagar. Commenting on this initiative Rukman Weerarathne, General Manger Marketing and Distribution said, " We at Union Assurance strive to ensure that our business operations add value to the communities with whom we interact."
