Cultural Affairs and National Heritage Minister Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena yesterday said that the government’s recent decision to prohibit screening of movies with adult themes wouldn’t affect the local movie industry. Speaking to The Island after a meeting with President Mahinda Rajapaksa on Tuesday (August 4), he said that though the Public Performance Board (PPB) had been directed to act tough, it wouldn’t target what the minister called quality movies with adult themes. He said that a section of the media had wrongly interpreted a recent government statement on a proposed crackdown on pornographic movies. (SF)
