A group of persons, including Susil Chandrasiri Perera,
an UPFA member of Padaviya Pradeshiya Sabha have launched a hunger
strike demanding electricity for three villages in the Padaviya area.
They told The Island that though the Padaviya
farming settlement had been established 52 years ago, successive
governments had turned a blind eye to their calls for electricity supply
to D-10 Maithripura, Balayawewa and Daluggala.
Perera said that in the run-up to the last NCP
elections, ministers engaged in the campaign had assured that power
would be given after the UPFA captured power.
