Polls monitors differ on number of incidents

The Network for Election Monitoring yesterday said that it had received 137 complaints relating to Uva PC polls campaign so far. Dr. Uditha Gunasekera, Chief Executive of the NGO said there had been 13 cases of assault, damage to property (1), attacks/damage on party offices (18), sabotage of propaganda meetings (6), threats (5), abuse of state resources (22), abuse of state power (23) and illegal propaganda work (49).

But Campaign for Free and Fair Elections spokesman Keerthi Tennakoon yesterday said that they had received 59 complaints comprising assault (16), intimidation (04), misuse of state resources (20) and violation of election laws (20).
