Police on Thursday night raided a house down Arethusa Lane in Wellawatte where they seized two suicide jackets, a micro pistol and five hand grenades. Two occupants of the house were arrested According to Police Spokesman SSP Ranjith Gunasekera the suspects now in police custody are from Jaffna and are being interrogated.

The detection was made in a joint operation by the Western Province Police Intelligence Unit and Wellawatte Police Intelligence Unit.

Meanwhile the Police Spokesman, responding to a query at a media briefing held at the Media Centre for National Security, as to why the police don’t handcuff criminals when they are being taken to recover hidden arms and ammunition and other objects, said Police is not there to protect criminals but the public.
