

TNA to India: Urge Lanka to implement 13 A in full
New Delhi, Aug 7 Leaders of a Sri Lankan Tamil party today met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and asked him to urge Colombo to implement the 1987 Indo-Sri Lanka accord in full and to take steps to merge the north and eastern provinces there.
Eelam National Democratic Liberation Front leaders Rajan alias Gnanasekaran and Vaseegaran along with Congress leader from Tamil Nadu E Anbarasu met Singh and apprised him of the current situation in Sri Lanka.
"We asked the Prime Minister to urge upon Sri Lanka to implement the Rajiv Gandhi-Jayawardhane accord in full and take steps to merge the north and eastern provinces which are dominated by Tamils," Anbarasu said after the meeting.
He said they also asked for an UN force to be deployed in Sri Lanka to oversee the implementation of the landmark accord.
"The Prime Minister said he was aware of the situation in Sri Lanka and India will continue to work with the Sri Lankan government in ensuring equal rights for Tamils,"he said.
The leaders also took objection to the alleged demographical change made by the Sri Lankan government in eastern districts by bringing Sinhalese.
"The Prime Minister recalled India had passed Indian Rs. 500 crore package for rehabilitation and reconstruction of the war ravaged parts. We requested him to take steps to improve the living conditions of Sri Lankan Tamil refugees in India,"he said.(Indian Express)
