Beware of job cheats - Keheliya

Minister of Foreign Employment Promotion, Keheliya Rambukwella warned prospective foreign employees against confidence tricksters who took money from them on the pretext of assisting them to obtain employment abroad. "There are those who claim to know a top ranker in the Ministry – including myself and very cunningly extracted lakhs of rupees promising jobs abroad", Rambukwella said while addressing media personnel who were present at the re-launch of the Foreign Employment Bureau website yesterday.

Over 120 bogus employment agencies have been identified by the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau (SLFEB) within the last three months, he said.

The www.slbte.lk has been given a new face and it serves contemporary needs of over 1.6 million foreign employees. "We have included information of the services provided by the Bureau, information of job opportunities, of Sinhala tele dramas and would also be providing a news roundup from newspapers," Rambukella said.

He said that nearly 250,000 people left Sri Lanka for foreign employment annually. The Bureau has to cater to their changing needs, the Minister said.
