A high level probe is underway into the assault on 22-year-old Nipuna Ramanayake, an Information Technology student of Pittugala, Malabe, allegedly by the son of Colombo Crime Detective Bureau Director SSP Vas Gunawardena. It was reported that the son of the SSP accompanied by some policemen had assaulted Nipuna and he was hospitalized following the assault.

The mother of the victim appealed to the IGP to hold an impartial inquiry into the assault on her son and bring the culprits to book.
