There were two birthday parties which followed each other organised by
family and friends. The first one was held at Sandra Fonseka’s elegant
residence with Sandra herself whipping up a gourmet dinner. Among the
small gathering apart from Sandra and her family and extended relations
were Shiromal Cooray and Ajith, Lou Ching Wong, Ranil de Silva, Luxmie
Jeganathan, Lala Senanayake and Sujan and Ramali Wijewardene. All the
women present though informally dressed were stylish with their attire,
with the birthday boy Hemalal (Koluu) Ranawake in high spirits. The
other party though has been a celebration over the years but this time
around the birthday was organised by the husband and family, with all
the trappings associated with such an occasion including a birthday cake
and a few items of entertainment, including a Michael Jackson double
performing some of Jackson’s well known numbers.
As to be expected at such a party once again were a
number of well dressed women and among whom was Ranjanie Wijewardene in
a champagne two piece, the below the hip length top ballooned at the
hemline, she wore with a slim skirt. The neckline was heavily worked and
looked like a chunky necklace. She wore eardrops and a bracelet and a
flower in her hair. Sister Lala Senanayake home from the States for her
annual break had her top of chiffon in a streaked design print which
went diagonally across in shades of turquoise, mauves and blue. A raw
silk top in oranges and light olive green was Aroshi Wadugodapitiya’s
choice to wear with slacks and a long necklace of brown beads.
