The parents of a GCE Advanced Level student of St. Anthony's Girls School at Katugatota have complained to the Kandy Centre of the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka that their daughter was unjustly expelled by the principal.
The parents of the student from Ginigathena have said in their complaint that their daughter was sacked over an incident that occurred outside the school. There was no proper investigation conducted into the alleged incident, they claimed.
It is alleged that the student was expelled over the use of a celluler phone.
The parents have said in their complaint that their daughter entered St. Anthony's Girls School in 2003 on the results of the grade five scholarship examination.
She was attending school from a private residence near Katugastota.
The Kandy Centre of the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka has listed the complaint to be inquired into an August 25.
Steps have been taken by Viranjan Sumanasekera, the chief of the Kandy Centre of the Commission, to summon the principal and vice principal of the school, the Education Director of the Katugastota Zone and the Secretary, Ministry of Education Central Province for the inquiry.
