With Pakistan’s poorest performance seen in recent times during the present tour of Sri Lanka having lost the Test Series and ODIs, it is evident that Pakistani cricket is in the lowest ebb ever.
In a recent press interview, published on 05th Aug., 2009 in ‘The Island,’ Pakistan Captain Younis Khan, attributes the failure of his team to domestic cricket flaws! What after all has that to do with the present disappointing results? This is a very vague reason. It is ridiculous to discredit the PCB, the Coach and other officials indirectly in this manner.
Pakistan is a Test-playing country prior to Sri Lanka and has produced some of the best players of all time in world cricket. The Pakistan team is paid for their jobs by their state. Why then blame others without performing well when needed, without showing reasonable commitment.
Even though late, Capt. Younis Khan must learn cricketing know-how, motivation and other vital factors quite genuinely, from none other than Sri Lanka Capt. Kumar Sangakkara.
Observe how he leads the team from the front, with masterly performance consistently and his motivation. You can’t persuade a team to perform well when you have yourself failed consistently. Motivation and performance must start from the leadership.
Sri Lanka play much more positive and superior cricket than Pakistan presently. Whatever the result of the remaining ODI and the Twenty-20 encounter, Sri Lanka have shown that they are the ones with more vigour, strength, techniques and determination. They have outplayed the tourists.
And finally, if Pakistan, the present T20 world champions, are beaten by Sri Lanka in the T20 Game -the last match of the tour-, shouldn’t such a result be regarded well and truly a complete disaster from the part of the Pakistanis? They have to put their act together and look for a complete overhaul, but with genuine intent.
