Moves are afoot to increase the number of members serving the Rugby Interim Committee which is overseeing the activities of the Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union (SLRFU), Sunday Island reliably learns.
A well informed source said that the number of members serving the Rugby Interim Committee would be increased by a few more.
The source added that the motive behind such a move was to make provisions for rugby’s interim administration to continue for a long time.
The source added that the new additions to the Rugby Interim Committee would be gazetted and approved by the Minister of Sports within the next few weeks.
The SLRFU came under an interim administration when the president and the secretary of the constitutionally elected governing body for rugby, for the year 2008, resigned a few months prior to the Annual General Meeting (AGM).
The present three member Rugby Interim Committee is headed by Chairman Dr. Maiya Gunasekere, Kiran Atapattu (Secretary/Treasurer) and Lasitha Guneratne (CEO).
