

An investment agreement worth US $ 6.5 million was signed between the Board of Investments and Rank Container Terminals (Private) Limited. The project is to construct and operate a dry port at Orugodawatta. The venture sponsored by Rank Holdings is expected to create employment for a workforce of 250.
The venture will provide facilities for the Sri Lanka Customs to examine all inbound cargo from the terminal. The company will provide railway infrastructure to transport cargo from the Colombo port to the terminal. With this venture container traffic in the Colombo area is expected to be reduced.Ravi Wijeratne stated that this is the first container freight station in Sri Lanka The terminal is constructed in a 10 acre land and will provide facilities to examine 250 containers at any given time.
Ravi Wijeratne, Chairman and Wasantha De Silva, Director of Rank Container Terminals (Private) Limited signed the agreement on behalf of the company.
